Meeting Tues 16th March

Second meeting of the month, tonight we pick our two winning images from this years photo of the month compitition. Januarys and Februarys winning images will be picked and the winning images will be posted on the club web site.

Meeting 10th of March

Tonights meeting will be a workshop presented by local artist Gemma Guihan. Gemma wil be on hand to demonstrate how she sets up still life compositions. A great night for all members. Please bring in your images for Februarys “photo of the month”. Doors open 7.45pm

Club Meeting 17th of February

Tonight we have the pleasure of a visit from the IPF prsident Mark Sedewick. Mark will be on hand to give a presentation on what to look for in an image and when you are judging an image or what to look for in your own image when you are preparing for a competition. Mark will talk about “judging an image based on its merits rather than if you like it or not”. Another enjoyable night that is not to be missed by all members. Doors open 7.45pm, talk starts at 8pm sharp.

Club Meeting Wed 10th of February

Tonights meeting will be of great interest to all members, beginners and experienced. Photographer Eddie Mallin will visit the club to give us what will be a memorable nights presentation of Black & White images. Eddie will be on hand to discuss what makes a great black & white image. What to look for and to demonstrate through his images what can work. Tonights presentation is suitable for film & digital users, beginners and experienced. John Hootan Club Outing April 10

This trip is a weekend workshop in landscape photography for those wanting to bring their skills to a new level and also for those wanting to head off for a social weekend. As you will see from this photographers images www.john-hootan.com this photographer is in a league of his own. John does ask that those attending have a good working knowledge of their camera.

Club Outing (January)

Our first club outing will be to Dublin Bay on Sunday 31st of january. We plan to be there at about half tide, this allows great sunrise images of the skyline in this area. Sunrise is just after 8am, so we’ll need to at the car park at 7.45am.

Bring wellies and a tripod, if possible please bring these items if you have them, nd grad filters & a polarising filter.

If you still feel up to it after the walk on the beach, perhaps breakfast in the city centre and a bit of early morning street photography. You should be back in Mountmellick for lunch.

Club Meeting 27th of January

Tonights meeting is our first of the new year after our AGM. Our first photo competition will run with the theme “WINTER“. This will be the first round of the new league that was voted in at our AGM. AGM 2010 (NEW DATE)

Yes folks it’s that time of year again. Our first meeting of the year will be on Wednesday the 13thof January (NEW DATE WED 20th) in the MDA centre. Due to it being the AGM we  need to start at 7.30pm, this a little earlier than normal, we’ll have tea ready just after 7pm.

Meeting Wednesday 21st October

Final meeting before the exhibition,  at the end of this meeting we will be running the photo of the month competition, theme this month is ‘reflections’, any subject, colour or black & white.

Meeting 7th of October

If you are exhibiting for the first time and wish for a small bit of help or advice why not attend the meeting at 7.30, bring in the images that you are planning to exhibit and have an informal chat with some of the other members who always arive early.

Next meeting

Our next meeting is on wednesday 23rd of September where we will have the photo of the month competition .The theme is b&w and the subject is left open so it can contain any subject . We are hoping to have as many photos as is possible so that we can take from these images and add one or two more  for future panels such as the national shield . The photos will be judged on the night . Also we have a work shop on the night on B & W to be given by Dom . The workshop will be on how to take b&w photos and methods of converting from colour to b&w, any members with photos that might want them converted can bring them in on a flash drive / disk and Dom will show us a couple of ways of doing so, we will try and do as many as we can. Doors open at 7.30 on the night for tea and a chat before the meeting starts at 8 o clock .

National Shield 2009 14th /15th of November

The club are trying to get a panel of images ready for this event. Any member that has not got a distinction can enter images so will members new and old start bringing in photos so we can gather them and start to make up the two panels . One panel will be in colour and the second will be black and white. We entered the shield last year and did quite well but with the standard of the images coming into the club we know we can improve on this.This is a great chance to show our work and to judge our work against other clubs.So please start bringing in photos as soon as possible .

Club Exhibition

The next club meeting is on wednesday the 9th of september and we will be trying to find out how many members want to show their work at the club exhibition which will take place around the october bank holiday weekend. For this reason we hope as many members as possible turn up on the night so that we can get an idea of how many members will be interested in putting up their work and a rough guide to the number of images they will have to display.

Meeting 26th August 09

Our meeting tonight will have two “photo of the month” competitions, first will be july’s, “still life” and the second will be august (this month) the theme “sport”. The theme sport can include not only images of competitors but also images of those who may be a spectator and also items that symbolise sport. Hints include, images of equipment, uniforms and spectators. All images welcome, as they say “if your not in you can’t will”. We hope to have our date for the exhibition announced tonight, from here on in it’s planning and preparation. Doors open at 7.45pm, all are welcome.

Glendalough Trip 23rd August

Meet in the upper car park at 10am. To get to this car park continue past the hotel for about 1 and a half miles. The code for the car park used to be 1928, it may still be the same, try 1928a, if these don’t work make sure that you have €4 in coins. For those wanting to car pool, members will be meeting at 8am in the square in Mountmellick. Bring a tripod & a polariser.

Club Outing 23rd of August

Change to the “Ballycotton Outing”, we’re putting this on the back burner for a short while, instead we’ve a trip planned to go to Glendalough for Sunday morning. We’ve a few options here, there is no real sunrise here because this is a valley and the sun has to be pretty high in the sky before it  clears the sides of the valley. One idea would be to meet in the valley just next to Glendalough.This valley is between Brockagh and Camaderry mountains.This is just before the “Vale of Glendasan” and has great opportunities. We could meet here at sunrise, we have fast running water, a waterfall and derelict buildings,(some great black & white possibilities). After this we could go to Glendalough, the lake here is great for reflections and is wide with high steep valley walls. From here for those who want to hike you can make your way to the miners village, this would take about 45mins, again this area is great for black and white. Weather permitting this would be a great area for a grub break. When we finish here for those who are still peckish a restaurant in Laragh serves all day breakfast. We’ll confirm meeting places and times closer to the day, this journey is about 1 and a half hours from the Gandon Inn. The photo of the month competition is being judged tonight, theme “Landscapes”. We’re going to devote part of this meeting to uploading some images to the new web site. Those wishing to try this will need to have images and passwords ready. Please remember to resize your images – no bigger than 1024×768.
